Dineen Visits Rice

Joe Dineen has logged a lot of miles over the past several weeks. After seeing Stillwater and Lincoln, the Kansas prospect made the trip to Texas for an unofficial visit to Rice. Go Inside for the latest on Dineen and the Owls…

Joe Dineen is a busy man. The Lawrence (KS) Free State defensive back has been on the move, making trips to Oklahoma State, Nebraska, and Rice over the past several weeks. The All-Sunflower League selection defender checked in Sunday from an airport in Houston, TX.

"I visited Rice this weekend," Dineen said. "It was good, but we went to the wrong airport. We've been at the airport for like seven hours."

Despite a missed flight, the leader of the Firebirds defense came away impressed with his first look at the Owl program.

"Their campus is crazy," he said, smiling. "It's all updated and really nice up there. They have houses, more like colleges where people live, not dorms. It's like Hogwarts in Harry Potter."

"The team is inside the colleges," he said. "The students live there. When you first arrive, you are divided up and put into one of the houses. For people that aren't athletes, you compete against other schools. They say it's similar to Oxford. It was definitely cool."

"All the coaches were great," he said. "I talked to Coach John Reagan, the offensive coordinator. I got to meet with a couple of the players, and they all seemed really happy."

Dineen is also a standout baseball player for the Firebirds. Between practices and early season games, he's been making the rounds on the recruiting trail. Though he's made it clear his Kansas offer holds a lot of weight, Rice was first to extend a scholarship to him. The Owls are clearly near the top of his list.

"I loved Rice when I went down there," he said, enthusiastically. "It was cool. They're not putting any pressure on me at all. They want me to come down on an official visit next season, but they aren't pushing anything."
