Devils offer MSU commit

Huntersville (N.C.) SouthLake Christian Academy RB Robert Washington, a freshman Mississippi State commit, took a visit to Arizona State and left with an offer from coach Mike Norvell.

Robert Washington visited Arizona State along with fellow 2016 skill position player Justin Berry.

"Justin was talking about Arizona State and I had talked to a coach there," Washington said, "so I decided to go out there with Justin. We watched them practice.

"Then, when we were standing and leaving, the head offensive coach (Norvell) gave us verbal offers. I couldn't stop smiling after I got the offer. It's offer number three. It feels great to get it."

Washington talked more about his observations from ASU.

"They have a really good team," he said. "D.J. Foster is a sophomore running back who is very versatile. Marion Grice is another good back with vision. They won a bowl game. Coach Norvell talked about how their offense looks more like a spread, but it's really pro.

"I loved the campus. Everything is open and beautiful. Most of the students don't even use cars to get around the campus; they skateboard and bike."

Washington remains committed to Mississippi State.

"I'm still 100% committed," he said. "I talked to the new head recruiter, Coach (David) Turner. He wants to get to know me more. I called him two weeks ago.

"He knows my high school coach and actually recruited Coach O'Donnell to Davidson as a fullback. Coach Turner is from North Carolina, too, and that's a neat connection."

UCLA and Florida State continue to show major interest.

"UCLA really likes me," Washington said, "and now that I have a first Pac-12 offer, maybe I will get another. Coach (Tim) Brewster said I'll probably get offered by Florida State after Coach Fisher sees me in person."
