Tuesday Practice Report

Mississippi State football spring practice report for Tuesday. Offensive and defensive depth charts as well as a new wide receiver walk-on for the class of 2013.

In the rehab pit

There were several players in the injury pit, including quarterback Dak Prescott, defensive back Taveze Calhoun, running back Josh Robinson, linebacker Ivan Muniz and running back Nick Griffin. Others that are injured but not in the pit include LaDarius Perkins, Quay Evans and Deontae Skinner.

Offense

The first team offensive line included tackles Blaine Clausell and Charles Siddoway, center Dillon Day and guards Gabe Jackson and Justin Malone. Tyler Russell was the first team quarterback. With LaDarius Perkins, Nick Griffin and Josh Robinson out, Derrick Milton was running first team running back. Malcolm Johnson and Brandon Hill alternated at tight end on the first unit. Five players alternated at wide receiver, including Jameon Lewis, Joe Morrow, Brandon Holloway, Robert Johnson and Fred Brown.

The second unit consisted of center Dylan Holley, guards Archie Muniz and Ben Beckwith and tackles Justin Senior and Damien Robinson. The second team quarterback was Sam Cowart. The second team tight end was Christian Holmes and Gus Walley and I believe Rufus Warren. The second team wide outs were Michael Carr, Jeremy Chappelle, Ricco Sanders, Brandon Holloway and Fred Brown.

The third team consisted of Devon Desper at center, guards Paul Thompson, and Henry Cunningham, tackles Cole Carter and Justin Senior. Archie Muniz alternated with Senior at one of the tackle spots. Christian Holmes and Artimas Samuel were the third team tight end. Josh Hand was the third unit quarterback. I believe Kasey Akins was the third team running back. Michael Carr, Javous Nicks and Tyrell Miller were the wide outs.

Defense

The first team defense consisted of ends Denico Autry and Ryan Brown, tackles Kaleb Eulls and P.J. Jones. Curtis Virges also played tackle at times on the first unit. Preston Smith alternated with Ryan Brown at defensive end a few plays. Linebackers were Benardrick McKinney, Chris Hughes and Matthew Wells. Richie Brown played middle linebacker a few times on the 1st team. The safeties were Nickoe Whitley and Jay Hughes. Dee Arrington also alternated with Jay Hughes at times. Kendrick Market also played safety on the first team a few plays. At cornerback Jamerson Love, Kivon Coman and Justin Cox alternated. Will Redmond also played cornerback a couple of times on the first unit.

The second unit defense included Nick James, Jordan Washington, Curtis Virges and Nelson Adams alternating at defensive tackle. The second unit defensive ends were A.J. Jefferson and Torrey Dale. The linebackers were Beniquez Brown, Richie Brown and Ferlando Bohanna. The second team safeties were Kendrick Market, Dee Arrington, Quadry Antoine and Deonte Evans. The cornerbacks were Will Redmond and Cedric Jiles.

Other than John Harris and Corvell Harrison-Gay on the defensive line, the third team defense consisted mainly of walkons.

Kick Returners

Players who returned kicks were Robert Johnson, Justin Cox, Will Redmond and Brandon Holloway.

Other Info

MSU has a new walk-on for the class of 2013, Glenbard East (IL) High School Maylsha Flanders. Flanders, who had an offer from Indiana State, is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound wide receiver. Flanders attended Tuesday's practice.

Tuesday's practice was law enforcement day. Between 25 and 35 local law enforcement officers were in attendance for the practice.
