Scout takes a look at some of the top defensive prospects expected.
Carter is a rush end out of Norcross, Ga. with great length and speed while Willis is a strong-side end who could slide inside some due to his size and strength out of New Orleans, La. Both have all the major offers a prospect could want and both are elite prospects.
Elisha Shaw and Rashaan Evans are Scout 100 prospects too. Shaw is a defensive tackle out of Tucker, Ga. Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Ohio State, and others are targeting this big 6-foot-3, 305 pound junior. Evans is a rush end who could play some outside linebacker on the next level as well out of Auburn, Ala. He has a great first step off the ball.
Poona Ford will travel down from South Carolina to compete in another NFTC. He shined in Orlando, Fla. in March. He has around 20 scholarship offers. He and Andrew Williams are both Scout 300 prospects and Williams has over 30 offers. He is being recruited to play end and outside linebacker.
Chris Williams is a state champion out of Sandy Creek (Ga.) and he has double-digit offers. This high energy defensive lineman is best at three-technique where he can use his quickness off the ball.
Some sleepers in the 2014 class look to make a name for themselves this weekend too. Justin Jones recently picked up offers from Miami and Old Dominion, so he is starting to pick up interest. Jon Michael Edwards, Taariq Shabazz, and Tae Thibodaux are all waiting for their first offers. Each of that trio is a defensive end in the 6-2/6-4 range and all weigh around 240-250 pounds. All three are considered Division 1 prospects by Scout.
The 2015 class will be well represented as well.
Mekhi Brown is a long and rangy end out of Columbus, Ga. and he recently committed to Alabama. He could play outside linebacker in their scheme.
Natrez Patrick is a rush end out of Atlanta and he has already been offered by Florida and Georgia. Austin Bryant plays linebacker for Thomas County Central, but will likely be a defensive end on the next level. Florida State has offered him. Schools like Alabama, Florida State, and Georgia have offered quick rush end D'Andre Walker already. He could be a stand up rusher on the next level.
Arden Key has double-digit offers and he is a long and rangy end out of M.L.K. in Lithonia, Ga. Georgia offered big defensive tackle Trenton Thompson earlier this year. Russell Ude is a junior to watch out of Atlanta too.
Five linebackers jump out when looking at the list of prospects who are expected in Buford Saturday.
Four-star linebacker Bryson Allen-Williams is the leader here. He is someone who can rush the passer, drop into coverage, and he always plays hard. He has a nose for the football and he is being pursued by schools coast to coast.
KeShun Freeman, Kendall Joseph, and Camerson Seward are versatile backers with offers. Freeman recently added offers from Miami, Stanford, and West Virginia. Joseph has offers from Clemson, Duke, UCLA, and others. Seward picked up an offer from California last week and others like Boston College and Cincinnati have offered as well.
The defensive back group looks to be deep at this camp. Wesley Green, a four-star corner out of M.L.K. will go out looking to earn an invite to The Opening this weekend. He has many offers and Clemson is thought to be the leader with Florida and Georgia trailing the Tigers.
Stephen Roberts is a Scout 300 corner out of Opelika, Ala. and Auburn and Alabama may fight this one out. He is a corner with good size (6-0/185).
Nick Glass is a big safety who could grow into a linebacker down the road. He is committed to Georgia, but is still taking visits to other schools. He is one that can hit and Scout is looking forward to seeing him in coverage this weekend.
Some other defensive backs to watch this weekend are Lance Austin, Marquice Dye, Jakari Allen, Qua Searcy, Cameron Glenn (Wake Forest commitment), Kendarius Webster, Darious Latimore, Christopher Murphy, and Khairi Lain. All are 2014 prospects.
Khalil Ladler is a 2016 corner out of Stone Mountain (Ga.) Stephenson and he already has offers from Alabama, Georgia, Vanderbilt, and others. Montrell Curtis is a 2015 safety to keep an eye on.
