LSU, FSU like Jones

Patterson (La.) freshman WR Mykel Jones visited LSU this week. He's getting interest from the Tigers, in addition to the Florida State Seminoles...

On Wednesday, 2016 wide receiver Mykel Jones and his father, attorney Ed Jones, made the trip from Patterson to LSU.

Mykel got one-on-one time with LSU coaches Les Miles, Frank Wilson and Adam Henry.

"Coach Miles gave me words of encouragement," Jones recounted, "and said he'll be glad to see me (on the Tigers' roster) in a few years. He said I'd look good in purple and gold. The main focus with him was on grades and education, which I liked."

Jones, who hauled in almost 30 receptions for 600 yards last year for the 3A Lumberjacks, talked about his discussions with Wilson and Henry.

"Coach Wilson was keeping us company," the 6-0, 180-pounder said. "We ate with him. He was trying to figure out my height and weight.

"Coach Henry sat down with us and talked about the receivers at LSU. He likes them physical. He likes receivers that jump up and volunteer to play special teams; I know I can fit in with that."

Jones clearly enjoyed his time on campus. In fact, he stuck around for LSU's baseball game that night versus Southern.

"Overall it went really well," he said. "Going back, I'll feel comfortable. I also spent time with Kenny (Hilliard) and talked with Jeremy Hill and Alfred Blue."

Jones is being recruited by Randy Sanders at Florida State. The Noles, along with LSU and Alabama, are expected to host Jones for summer camp sessions.

Sanders is expected in Patterson in the coming weeks to get an early look at Jones and 2015 WR Daylon Charlot (Arizona State, Mississippi State offers).
