One of the up and coming prospects in the Midwest, is Crete-Monee defensive lineman Chris Slayton. Slayton has six offers and is starting to make waves for the Warriors.

Right now, Slayton is participating in track for Crete-Monee as well as lifting with the football team -- plus has added 30 pounds since his junior season.

"Lifting was pretty hard out here today, Nyles Morgan was working me out today. I'm getting the hang of things though," Slayton said with a laugh. "He knows what he's doing, so I try to listen to him."

After Slayton put in work in the weight room, he headed out to the track for throws practice. But before, he took some time to discuss the last few months.

"I have added about 30 pounds since the season, right now I weigh 260 pounds," Slayton said. "I feel stronger and a whole lot quicker, actually. It will definitely help me on the football field, I think it will help me get past my defenders easier."

Slayton has six offers from Michigan State, Illinois, Syracuse, Western Michigan, Toledo and Ball State.

"I think schools like me because of my size and speed," Slayton said. "And my athleticism I hear that a lot."

Crete-Monee is coming off a perfect 14-0 season where they won the Illinois 6A State Title, which makes Slayton even more excited for the next year.

"I am anxious, I'm really excited. I can't wait till next year. We have to work hard to live up to expectations that we have on us," Slayton said.

Although Slayton has 6 offers under his belt, he has several other schools interested.

"I have started hearing from Ohio State, Missouri, and Iowa lately," Slayton said. "I wanted to visit Michigan State this past week, but didn't get out there. The first visit that I will take is probably to Michigan State."

He continued, "When I get other to visit I'm looking forward to seeing the campus, and just their football program. Plus I'm looking forward to meeting her coaches."
