Dr. Henry A. Wise High (Upper Marlboro, Md.) Scout 300 safety Marcus Allen made the short trip out to College Park for Maryland's Spring Game on April 12 and was impressed with what he saw.
"I liked the game a lot, it was a pretty exciting atmosphere," Allen said. "Stefon Diggs had a couple of explosive plays that made the crowd go wild and I know a couple of guys on the team so that made me even more into the game."
As a free safety, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound Allen paid close attention to one of Maryland's defensive backs, Sean Davis.
"He is a great player," Allen said. "I actually worked out with him at Prime Example in the summer so that would be cool if we could play on the same team in college."
In addition to Davis, Allen frequently talks to Terps linebacker Shawn Petty, who gives him valuable insight about the program.
"He doesn't cut any cards, and everything he said so far it makes me more interested in Maryland," Allen said. "He said the biggest thing is just the equal amount of chance you get to play on the field."
After the game, Allen got a chance to talk to Maryland head coach Randy Edsall and his recruiter, Mike Locksley.
"They said they want me to come and play for them," Allen said. "They were asking me to commit now, but I want to take some more time and make sure I make the right decision."
While Allen has visited Maryland a number of times and is familiar with the Terps program; there are several other schools in the mix, including: Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, Clemson, NC State, Wake Forest, Rutgers and Penn State. Allen is still exploring his options for the future.
In the meantime, he is hitting the weight room, running track and training with Prime Example to improve his technique.
As far as a decision goes, Allen would like to be finished with the recruiting process sooner rather than later.
"I want to get it (a decision) done before my senior year," Allen said. "As plans go along I am just going to play it out and be safe, but I definitely want to make my decision before the season starts."
