Whitfield, 6-foot, 175-pounds, currently holds four MAC offers and has several BCS schools showing interest. He is set to have a great senior season.
"I've been working hard in the weight room, and I'm running routes and doing defensive back drills all the time," Whitfield stated. "I'm trying to increase my explosiveness, because that's what college coaches want to see."
"Michigan State, Pittsburgh and Illinois have been in to see me," he explained. "I'm expecting more schools to be here in May. I have visited Michigan State, Penn State and West Virginia so far. I talk to Penn State and Coach (Charlie) Fisher often. He told me to be patient about an offer because they're going slow. I'd love to have the Penn State offer."
"West Virginia is supposed to be in the building soon, but I have no idea how interested they are," he added. "Michigan State is another school I really liked when I visited, and the coaches are great. They said they're very interested in me, but they aren't ready to offer yet."
"If Penn State and Michigan State need to see me in camp before they offer, I would do that," he continued. "I am going to Pittsburgh for camp, and I definitely want to learn more about them. Most schools are recruiting me as a defensive back, and position doesn't matter to me."
In his junior season, Whitfield caught 32 passes for 642 yards and five touchdowns. He also impressed at both safety and cornerback for Massillon.
