Jackson Enjoying The Process

Petal star WR Jesse Jackson is a busy man these days. Currently, he's hearing from four schools on a regular basis, and another one is getting in the mix. He took a weekend visit to Hattiesburg, and talks about the visit and the latest with GoldenEaglePride.com.

Jesse Jackson is a 4 star receiver from Petal High who has certainly made a name for himself. After a strong junior season, Jackson propelled himself to one of the top receivers in the state of Mississippi.

It is showing in the offers he's earning already this spring.

Jackson has offers from Southern Miss, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Alabama. Yesterday, he took an unofficial visit to Southern Miss.

He talked about his time with GoldenEaglePride.com.

"I went to campus to visit with Coach Monken, and it really went great," he explained. "We basically talked about what kind of offense they are going to this year, and he showed me some of the routes that they are going to be running.

"Basically we talked about the team, what they have coming back, how I'd be used in the offense, and what type of scheme they'll be running."

As has every prospect that has met with Coach Monken, Jackson has had nothing but positive things to say about the new Eagle head coach.

"From day one when he came to talk to me at my school, I've always thought very highly of him and thought he was a great guy," he said. "He really knows his stuff and you can tell how much he cares for his players. I'm very impressed with Coach Monken."

Jackson and his Petal Panthers had a good spring, though they practiced earlier than most schools.

"We are already finished with spring practice, we went real early," he said. "I've just been working out with my team and staying busy trying to finish up school. We are lifting weights and trying to improve.

"I'm going this summer to a bunch of camps. I'm going to all the in-state schools camps, and I'm also going to try to take in Georgia's as well."

Who is the star receiver hearing from right now?

"I'm hearing from the schools that have offered me," he said. "Southern Miss, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Alabama contact me all the time. Georgia is the latest. I feel like if I'm able to go over there and meet them then I'll get an offer.

"I want to go to a school that first has coaches that I have a strong relationship with. That is what is most important to me. I also want to go to a place that I can get a strong education. Then, of course, the football program, tradition, and ability to come in and play right away and contribute."

Jackson said he has no timetable for a decision, but when he feels the time is right he'll decide on what is the best fit for him.

We'll continue to track Jackson and other Southern Miss prospects. Keep it locked on GoldenEaglePride.com.
