Johnson Staying Humble Despite UC Offer

Gary (Ind.) West Side junior wide receiver Jon Vea Johnson waited patiently for a first offer to come and it did this week when Cincinnati came calling. He talks more about it here along with his camp plans.

West Side High's Jon Vea' Johnson, a quick footed junior wide receiver, caught some great news this week when Cincinnati became the first school to offer the 6'0, 170-pound recruit.

While he was excited, he did not want to get a big head and feel like he had arrived as a result.

"I was pretty geeked when I first heard," he said/ "I didn't really like feel big time and all. It is a big time offer but I didn't want to feel like I was better than everybody else. I'm still on my grind."

Johnson has been to Cincinnati before and plans to visit again.

"I think I'm going when school lets out June 1st or June 2nd. I've been there multiple times. I've been there last year, my sophomore year and been there this year. I love it. When I first went down there my sophomore year and saw the facilities, I didn't know anything, but the facilities were great."

He has also built a great relationship with area recruiter and position coach Blake Rolan.

"I haven't had a chance to meet the staff, but I love my recruiting coach, Coach Rolan. I love my coach. He's real cool and down to earth. I love Cincy. I always loved them since I've been there since took first unofficial."

This summer, Johnson will be attending camps in hopes of earning even more attention.

"Tennessee, Auburn, Kentucky, Nebraska wants me to come down for camp and Ohio State wants me to come down."

Johnson's cousin Lonnie Johnson is a class of 2014 commit to Ohio State. The two will be playing at this weekend's IMG 7 on 7 Tournament on their Core 6 team. Scout will have coverage of the event.
