NC State has reportedly offered Miami (FL) Central offensive lineman Raul Diaz but one huge question lingers. Would he actually leave his home state of Florida?
When the question of distance and it's relevance arises you get vastly different answers from one prospect to the next. Some want to stay close to home. Others actually want to get away. A third group, in between the previous two, seems indifferent.
Diaz is in the first group and admits he likes the idea of staying close to home.
"I would like to stay close to home but if I have to travel somewhere else because it's a better fit then I would do that too," he said.
The last part of his answer is why NC State and other schools outside of Florida are still recruiting Diaz. They are making the case that his best fit is at NC State. Diaz has already been to the school once before and he knows he likes the area.
"That would be a visit I might take. I've been up there for a game. I was friends with a kicker up there about three years ago. His name was Jeff. I haven't talked to them that much but my coach told me they offered. They haven't talked to me about it personally but I've heard they offered. They've mostly talked to my coach."
USF, Louisville, Kentucky, Memphis and Florida International are the other schools that have offered. Tennessee is heavily involved as well.
Diaz visited USF during the spring and the Bulls have become one of his top choices.
"I liked it a lot but I plan to visit more this summer. The (former) head coach of my high school (team) is there now as their running backs coach. We were tight. Their facilities are really nice."
But another school from Diaz's home state has his heart. They just haven't offered.
"I have a favorite but I don't have an offer from them. Miami. That's my favorite. I've been talking to the coaches and they haven't officially offered but they're talking about it."
USF and Florida International are the schools that have been recruiting Diaz the hardest.
