"I got a call from my recruiting coach, Coach (DeAndre) Smith," Cotton explained. "I spoke on the phone with him. Then, my coach had sent me a text saying Syracuse had offered. Then right as I was reading that text, my recruiting coach calls over and gets me on the phone. He tells me they wanted to offer.
"That the whole coaching staff was watching my film and they liked the way I play. They told me that I would fit in at Syracuse. He was telling me a little bit about the school, and the football program. That's basically what happened with the Syracuse offer."
The offer put Syracuse in the mix for Cotton's services. The Orange view the safety position as a critical one for their 2014 class. Cotton was happy to have another option, and is looking forward to learning more about the Orange during a possible visit over the summer.
"It was exciting," Cotton admitted. "It was really exciting. I'm thankful for the opportunity. I'm definitely going to look more into Syracuse now. I'm going to try to get down there this summer. Hopefully I can schedule it in between my other visits next month. But I want to get down there."
With no set time table for a decision, Cotton says he has a bunch of schools coming at him hard.
"I'd say all the schools that I have offers from are coming at me hard," Cotton claimed. "Michigan State, Iowa State, Indiana, Syracuse I've talked to a couple times, Wisconsin who I've been getting quite a few letters from, Minnesota also is interested. Those are the schools coming at me."
