La Belle Lineman Gaining Offers

The third offer for LaBelle (FL) offensive guard Caleb Rimes is in as Tulane joins the fracas. Rimes is drawing interest from various other programs like Alabama and Florida. At 6-2.5 and 300 pounds, with pretty quick feet, and phenomenal strength, he will surely draw more attention. Here is the latest.

Tulane was on their way to see Caleb Rimes and his team at practice when they got sidetracked, However, they heard and saw enough on film to extend a scholarship offer to the rising senior and class of 2014 lineman.

"I was offered over the phone," Rimes told earlier in the week. "They had me call them. They were going to stop by, but they had issue with their flights, so they will come back down and see me practice one time (later).

"Tulane said they watched my film and were impressed with it. They didn't come out to practice, so it was a surprise that they offered. (La Belle coach) Coach Siner told me they were going to come and offer me. Coach Mike (McCarthy) sent me a Facebook message so I knew they were interested."

Last week, Rimes and La Belle were visited by University of Florida assistant Joker Phillips. The Gators receiver coach liked what he saw of Rimes and wants pushed him to visit camp next month in Gainesville.

"He said he was interested in me on the offensive line," Rimes said of Phillips. "They liked my all-around game and liked my size. They want to get me to camp and check me out a little closer." Rimes says he plans on camping at Florida on June 8th and says Phillips and the other staff members he has talked to like his physical traits to be a good lineman.

"They like my size, speed, and I can move pretty well," he said.

More and more interest is coming in almost every day and Miami is a team that will also get a hard look.

"I talked to Florida Tech and we are trying to talk to UCF," he said. "We lost contact a little bit, but are trying to get back in with that. Dad is a Miami fan. I am interested in going to a camp this year. I went to a camp last year but that was for defensive line.

With offers starting to come in, Rimes says there are two teams that he is hearing a little from and that he actually favors at this time. The SEC West has been a bull of a division in college football over the last several years and Rimes likes two of the better teams in the division.

"Since I was probably about 10 years old I got turned on to LSU," he said. "They used to be my team when I played video games and they have been my favorite team. My uncle always liked them, so I liked them. I haven't talked to the coaches, but I do get letters and information about their camps and everything."

Then there is the reigning national champion. The Alabama staff has been down to see him already and really knows who he is.

"We have hunting property in Alabama, so that is another school that I like," Rimes said. "I like the offensive line coach. He was the head coach at FIU, so that is a big pull there. Plus, they are the national champions."

Some things that turn Alabama, LSU, and Florida on about Rimes? He's a state weightlifting champion having benched 390 pounds and a thrown up a clean-and-jerk of 330 for a combined 720 pounds. Strength is no issue and he loves contact which is why he wants to play offense and not worry about just having to find the ball carrier to really hit someone.

"I love to hit," he said. "That is why I love the offensive side. I love to pull, there is nothing better. I am known to block. Coach Siner mentioned that my goal is to do my block and then go to the next level and find someone to hit. I don't think the play is over when you make your block. As long as the whistle hasn't blown… I can go hit someone."

Note: Since the story was posted, Rimes has also been offered by South Alabama.
