BCS offer for Eugene

Archbishop Rummel (Metairie) 2014 safety Dwayne Eugene nabbed his first BCS offer (fifth overall)...

The Arizona Wildcats issued a new offer to New Orleans DB Dwayne Eugene.

"Coach (Calvin) McGee came to our practice and liked how I played," Eugene said. "He talked to me, and then we talked on the phone and he said he was offering.

"He told me about the school. He talked about the nice weather they have, and asked what I plan to major in. I told him I want to major in business; he said they have a good business program."

What else did McGee convey to the physical, 6-1, 205-pounder?

"He asked if I'd mind leaving the state for college," Eugene related, "and if I'm interested in Arizona. I told him I'm open to leaving, and I'm interested.

"I'm really excited about the offer, but I have to keep working hard. Coach also talked about how they've had a few players at Arizona from New Orleans."

Eugene helped Rummel to the 2012 Class 5A state title and a national ranking. The Raiders, led by head coach Jay Roth, finished with a 14-0 mark.

Rummel has one of the country's better secondaries with Eugene, 2014 CB Henre' Toliver (10 offers) and 2016 CB Kristian Fulton (Louisiana Tech offer).
