"I'm still pretty far right now," he explained. "I got closer. I was thinking about Notre Dame. I was thinking about committing to them. I'm still far away but still happy with all my offers, Notre Dame, Utah, North Carolina State and Hawaii, but a couple schools are getting close."
One of those schools who is turning up the heat is one that could completely change the face of Dawkins' recruitment.
"I'm usually not one to talk about schools getting close, but USC is getting close. If that one comes, it will make my thought process hard. It's a great school, they're local, and I love the coaching staff and love Coach Helton, the quarterback coach over there and they're great guys."
He also took the opportunity, while in Columbus, to check in with Ohio State.
"I visited Ohio State yesterday. It went really well. Coach Meyer, the head coach, talked to me, said he had heard of me, but he didn't know me well enough and hadn't seen me throw live, that's pretty much what every school has said so far. Coach Meyer knows me, has heard of me, seen the tape and loves it."
He added, "I definitely might try to get back out here and see if I can throw for Coach and set something up camp wise."
All that would do is add one more wrinkle to a recruitment that seems destined to take off even more.
"I have a lot of hard decisions coming up in my life, so I'm taking it slow and it's part of process."
