The 6-foot-2, 175-pound McElvaney went to Milford Academy to participate in their spring practice. And his participation was very fruitful.
"It went good. We had three practices a day. After spring practice, I was starting," he said. "We're rated in the top five in the nation," said McElvaney.
K.J. feels like he competition level that he's going to be facing at the prep level will open the eyes of some coaches, including one in-state program.
"I feel that Kentucky is giving a lot of opportunities to guys. I feel like once they come see me play at a high level school against high level competition they'll offer me," he said.
But Kentucky it's the only school watching the former Jeffersontown Charger.
"The top schools that are recruiting me are Indiana State and Kentucky. I think Indiana State will be my first offer," said McElvaney.
"I really don't know much about them. My (high school) coach has been talking to them for me since I've been on the road," he said.
Another school who has maintained contact is Toledo.
"I talked to Toledo last month. They said they want me to keep in contact with them and they will remain in contact with me," he said.
