Cats land West

Kentucky landed its second four-star commitment of the day from the Buckeye State when elite safety Darius West gave his verbal to Mark Stoops & Co.

Lightning has struck twice in the Buckeye State for the Kentucky Wildcats.

Just a couple of hours after four-star Cincinnati cornerback Mike Edwards announced his intentions to wear the blue and white, fellow four-star defensive back Darius West of Lima's Central Catholic High School has followed suit.

The news broke on Twitter Monday night via UK quarterback commitment Drew Barker: S/O to my boy @D_1west25 for committing JUST NOW!!!! Lets gooooo!!! #BBN

Shortly after, West confirmed his decision via Twitter: @D_1west25: I JUST COMMITTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY!!! #BBN #noflyzone

West (6-0, 195, 4.4) is ranked the No. 20 safety prospect in the nation by Scout and FOX Sports Next. He also held offers from programs like Louisville, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Missouri, Notre Dame, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

He gives UK 14 commitments in the Class of 2014, including four defensive backs, which was perhaps the staff's biggest priority position this year. Earlier in the day, the Cats had climbed to No. 12 nationally in Scout's team recruiting rankings. West should move UK into an unprecedented Top 10 spot.
