Peavy Has One, Seeking More

FOX Sports NEXT has been around the Midlands area checking in on a number of state 7-on-7 tournaments through the state of Texas. We recently caught up with Westfield defensive back Brian Peavy at The Woodlands SQT. The Spring, Texas native has an offer right now and in line for more.

Working on his man coverage was one of the key factors that Spring (TX) Westfield cornerback Brian Peavy wanted to address this past off season. And while he feels as though that was accomplished, there are more things that needed attention as well as Westfield made a deep playoff run last season.

"I wanted to work on my man technique. That will be a big factor in college, being able to cover guys," Peavy said. "I also wanted to improve as a leader. Our team can only be as strong as the weakest link."

Check off both as the 5-foot-9, 170-pound Peavy felt as though both of those things were address, and he continues to build on both. As for the man coverage, clearly Peavy has done some work here as he finished last year with 80 tackles and three interceptions.

With those numbers, several college coaches have taken notice. One made him an offer a month ago and more could be on the way.

"I just have a Texas Tech offer. I lot of schools came down said they like me," Peavy said. "Some of the coaches said that they needed to go into meetings to see if I will get an offer.

Iowa State, TCU, Texas Baylor, Oklahoma State and Northwestern are a few of the schools that are recruiting him, or at least keeping some form of communication with him.

Now Peavy just looks to build on the momentum that he has created for himself.

"It was a blessing to see hard work pay off, but I'm not settling. I had the (Tech) offer about a month now," Peavy said.

Peavy has attended camps at TCU, Texas and Oklahoma State. He said that he looks to visit Texas Tech sometime this summer.
