After picking up his first offer from San Diego State last week, Haynesville HS defensive back Jerrell Jackson decided to call up San Diego State's Recruiting Coordinator Tony White and become the Aztecs 9th commit of the 2014 class.
"San Diego State is a good winning program and I've always wanted to go to California since I was little," Jackson said. "I wanted to get it over before the high school season because I want to focus on winning state right now."
This past season Jackson led Haynesville High School to the Louisiana State Championship at the Superdome while playing on both sides of the ball. "I need to work on getting better each day, preparing with other people that are getting ready for the next level."
"I talk to coach white every night and every morning and see how things are going. We have a good relationship. He told me stuff I want to hear and stuff I didn't want to hear. When I talk to other schools they would only tell me the good stuff, it tells me that Coach White is being 100% honest with me. He tells me I'm gonna love the campus."
Jackson had been hearing from Utah, Oklahoma State, Appalachian State, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech, and Georgia State before committing to the Aztecs.
"I want to visit this summer, or I might wait till my official visit in December."
"I'm gonna tell (the coaches) that come recruit me that I already committed. Other coaches are gonna come at me because I got a big offer from a big school. They're gonna feed off another school just to try and offer me."
Jackson has set some goals for himself once he reports to San Diego.
"California is a state I've always wanted to go to. I can go out there and have a free education while playing football," Jackson said. "I want to win a conference championship, win a bowl game in all 3 or 4 of my years and then go to the NFL. I also want to get a degree too."
Jackson can't wait for California
