Buchannon A Camp Stand-Out

The Golden Eagles had three days in a row of fantastic camps, two on campus in Hattiesburg and one in Birmingham. One who impressed the coaches in Birmingham was Charles Buchannon, RB from Pleasant Grove HS in Alabama. He talks about what the coaches had to say to him and his impressions of camp with GoldenEaglePride.com.

Charles Buchannon is a 5'9, 185lb explosive RB out of Pleasant Grove HS in Alabama. He, along with around 120 other prospects, came to the Southern Miss camp in Birmingham last Friday.

After practice, Buchannon was pulled aside by Coach Monken, who had him run some extra drills.

GoldenEaglePride.com caught up with the talented back after the work-out to hear his thoughts on the day.

"There was some great talent out here today, and I challenged myself to see if I could compete and I feel like I really held my own out here today," he told GoldenEaglepride.com.

He informed us that Coach Monken really noticed his ability and wanted to talk to him more after the camp.

"He was saying that I have really good talent and that I have a chance to play at Southern Miss if I can keep working," he said. "I didn't get an offer, but he wants to come see me play and the staff wants to see me again."

Right now, Buchannon is hearing from Middle Tennessee, UAB, Southern Miss, Alabama State, and he was just invited to a camp out in Oregon.

Buchannon is a lightning quick back who can turn on a dime. From observation at camp, his footwork is excellent and he is able to start and stop with explosion.

He's hoping the camp will land him an offer to Southern Miss.

"I'd love to get an offer there," he added. "I love the coaches and its a great program that has always competed against anyone. I'm going to stay in touch and hope it comes through."

We'll have more camp follow up from all three camps, stay tuned.
