Nearly committed

Sometimes being forced to change perspective on life decisions can be a good thing. For this linebacker/defensive end, looking at life outside of football is the only way moving forward.

Bellaire's Brelynd Goods received an offer last month to come play for the Bobcats, despite off-the-field issues. A concussion added to the burden of Goods' last season and Goods is all about the backup plan now.

My main goal is academics," Goods said. "I want to get my degree first. It's a very slight chance that people go the NFL from college. I'm going to play my heart out. If (it doesn't work out), I'm getting my degree to fall back on."

Goods has other offers from New Mexico and Old Dominion, who is joining Conference-USA in 2014. Interested parties include Houston Baptist, Baylor, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Fresno St.

Texas State is still high on Goods' list after nearly committing last week.

"Right now, Texas State would rank pretty high," Goods said. "I've looked into it and I've researched the school. I was going to commit to Texas State last week but pushed it back a little bit after speaking with my family. They said there was no rushing into it."

Despite the delay, Goods said that he did want to commit before the season starts in August. He finished last season with 38 tackles, 7 sacks, 1 FF and 1 FR.
