The Opening: Elijah Hood Update

Notre Dame is getting a special talent and special kid is running back Elijah Hood.'s complete coverage of The Opening 2013 presented by NIKE
Elijah Hood is a happy camper, literally.

Leaving the Nike practice fields at The Opening after a long and grueling hot day two of practice he was all smiles.

And why should he not? This Charlotte (N.C.) Catholic running back prospect is on top of the world, the recruiting world that is. He's at the most prestigious recruiting event around and headed to play his college football at Notre Dame.

"It's been a good few days and this is just a blessing," Hood said. "These are the top high school players in the country. It's an honor. It's so much fun and there is so much competition. You get exposure. You are on TV. I just wanted to come out here and compete. I will give it 100%."

Hood certainly looks the part. He's a jacked up 6-foot-0 and 221-pounds. Ranked as the No. 11 ranked running back in the nation he's a four-star recruit. He's committed to Notre Dame and believes the Fighting Irish are the perfect match.

"When I made my decision it felt like destiny," Hood said. "I made a check list and they had everything I was looking for. The key in the lock fit perfectly. I felt at home and I just loved the people. They are all going to push me to be better on and off the field. The staff is just great."

Hood had a monster junior campaign, rushing for over 3,300 yards and 47 touchdowns while averaging over 12 yards a carry.

"I am a big and strong back that has speed. I am fast," Hood said. "I love to finish my runs. I have power and vision. I can do it all. I have confidence in my abilities and will continue to work hard."

Hood still has a season to play for Charlotte Catholic. Still, he can't but help look ahead to South Bend. He knows it will be a new beginning at the next level.

"I will have zero stats, zero yards and zero stars," Hood said. "I will have to start over. I will have to work hard and grind. Notre Dame will get all I have."
