Wilson Expects to Play Early at BC

Boston College came into the Midwest and landed a commitment from Detroit Country Day (Mich.) junior running back Richard Wilson today and he expects to make an immediate impact for the Eagles.

After earning an offer from Boston College, Country Day's Richard Wilson camped at the school, spent time on the campus with the coaches and decided he wanted to be an Eagle, choosing them today over offers from Central Michigan, Ball State, Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan.

"I would say what made me want to be an Eagle was that it is a prestigious school, they're great with academics, and if I don't make the NFL, I'll have a great job to fall back on. I can get my masters from B.C. and they also have a well put together football team and a great coaching staff."

The 6'0, 190-pound Wilson becomes the first commitment for the Eagles in Michigan this class and their second in the Midwest. When he informed the coaching staff that he wanted to jump on board, their reaction was naturally, a positive one.

"When I told the coaches, they were really excited to hear it. Coach Addazio was excited and Coach Washington was excited. They both seemed really excited to hear it."

The excitement comes from adding a player who may be able to help immediately.

"I talked to Coach Washington, he said when I come in, I'd probably get time as a freshman. It's a blessing because lots of people don't get to play their freshman year. I believe when I get there next year, I'll be able to get time."

With Wilson's recruitment now taken care of, all three of Country Day's stars have committed (wide receiver Maurice Ways to Michigan and quarterback Tyler Wiegers to Rutgers). This should allow the Yellowjackets to focus on this season, one where they hope to get back to the state title game and change the result this time around.

"This definitely allows me to focus on the team, get my team together and win a state championship, that's my main goal. It's a weight lifted off my shoulders."
