The Opening: Morgan Mahalak Update

Kentridge (Calif.) Marin Catholic quarterback Morgan Mahalak had a strong showing at The Opening last week and was one of the most efficient signal callers in the event.

Morgan Mahalak has had a big spring emerging as one of the top quarterbacks in the west after playing behind Cal signee Jared Goff as a junior. Not only did Mahalak get multiple scholarship offers, including one from his dream school, he was selected for the Elite 11/The Opening and showed he definitely belongs among the nation's top signal callers.

"This is the best camp in the country," Mahalak said following The Opening. "I've learned so much from the coaches and definitely feel like I've gotten better out here. To have the opportunity to compete against the best players in the country has been an incredible experience and I loved every minute of it."

Mahalak helped his team (Field Generals) win the 7 on 7 championship and had one of the most impressive performances of the tournament in a semi-final win. He completed 15-16 passes for two touchdowns showing great accuracy, decision making and poise in the pocket.

As for his college decision, Mahalak still feels as good as ever about his commitment to the Oregon Ducks.

"I'm very excited to be a Duck," Mahalak said. "I think I made a great decision and I'm 100% positive it was the best move for me. I have family in the area so that was another plus to go along with the great football program and coaching staff.

"I've always wanted to go to Oregon, ever since I was a kid that has been my dream school and not many people have the opportunity to commit to their first choice. Looking back at it, it was a pretty easy decision for me and that's why I basically committed on the spot when they offered."
