Recruiting Big Board

The 2014 class has been shaping up well for Syracuse but the work is far from over. CuseNation.com takes a look at which targets are the priority with the recruiting big board including an update on where things stand with each prospect.

Syracuse's 2014 class is starting to take shape as summer approaches its mid-way point. As the Orange have landed some prospects and missed on others, their recruiting big board has changed significantly over the past few months.

Thomas Holley
Position:
Defensive Tackle
School (City, State):
Lincoln High (Brooklyn, NY)
Rating:
4-star
The latest:
Holley has vaulted to the top of Syracuse's big board as the Orange look to pull of a major recruiting upset. He has already visited some of the southern schools on his list as well as Penn State, and is planning to visit Syracuse before the end of the summer. That visit will be critical to the Orange's chances.

Holley attended The Opening and performed well. Originally, the four-star defensive tackle was thought to be set on staying close to home. However, recent interviews suggest he may be open to playing elsewhere. Penn State is the biggest threat in the northeast, while schools like Miami, Florida, and Florida State are likely landing spots if he wants to go away from home.

Profile:

Chad Mavety
Position:
Offensive Tackle
School (City, State):
Nassau Community College (Garden City, NY)
Rating:
4-star
The latest:
Mavety is the top offensive target for Syracuse. He had a recent visit postponed due to unforeseen car trouble. He has visited several schools already, and has an upcoming trip to Alabama. Officials to Florida State and Ohio State have already been scheduled, and a visit to Syracuse is in the works for sometime this summer.

Similar to Holley, it remains to be seen how close to home Mavety would like to stay. Ohio State already has Jamarco Jones as part of their 2014 class, and Jermaine Eluemunor is a flip candidate from UCLA. Alabama may not have room for him, which leaves Syracuse in a position to jump on the talented offensive tackle. A visit will be key, as the Orange will pursue Mavety very hard.

Profile:

Steve Ishmael
Position:
Wide Receiver
School (City, State):
North Miami Beach High (North Miami Beach, FL)
Rating:
Not Rated
The latest:
Even with the commitment of K.J. Williams, Steve Ishmael remains the wide receiver Syracuse is the highest one. They believe his speed will give the Orange a big time threat on the outside. He has not been up to campus yet, but is planning on taking an official visit.

Syracuse feels that they are in a good position here, but other big name schools are in pursuit. Expect Syracuse to be in this one to the end, with the visit being the key for the Orange.

Profile:

Qadree Ollison
Position:
Running Back
School (City, State):
Canisius High (Buffalo, NY)
Rating:
3-star
The latest:
Ollison enjoyed his visit to Syracuse in the spring. The Orange made the cut for Ollison's top five. He recently tweeted that he is looking at a decision by September 4th or 5th. A return visit is possible before that time.

More and more, Syracuse is looking like one of the favorites for Ollison. Wisconsin has two running backs already committed as does Penn State and Rutgers. The Nittany Lions also only have two slots left in their 2014 class. One is reserved for Thomas Holley if he wants it. Pittsburgh has one running back commit and is in hot pursuit of 4-star Shai McKenzie. Logic dictates that the Orange are in a good position here.

Profile:

Jamal Custis
Position:
Wide Receiver
School (City, State):
St. John Neumann High (Philadelphia, PA)
Rating:
3-star
The latest:
Custis is one of the skill position players Syracuse wants the most. His ability to play receiver or potential position switch to tight end make him a coveted target. His recruitment has been relatively quiet, but the Orange have him as one of their priorities.

A visit doesn't appear to have been scheduled yet, despite tweeting he was visiting on the 15th. Expect him to make the trip to the hill sometime this summer, however.

Profile:

Christian Blake
Position:
Wide Receiver
School (City, State):
Cardinal Gibbons High (Fort Lauderdale, FL)
Rating:
Not Rated
The latest:
Christian Blake was down to Syracuse and Northern Illinois with visits scheduled to each. A decision was to be made after his last visit. However, Missouri recently offered and pushed back that time frame.

Syracuse is still in a good position and should be considered the favorite to land Blake. However, an SEC offer is attractive. Blake said he does plan to visit Missouri in the fall.

Profile:

Ish Witter
Position:
Running Back
School (City, State):
Alonso High (Tampa, FL)
Rating:
Not Rated
The latest:
Witter recently named a top three of Syracuse, Rutgers, and Missouri. Missouri seems to be trailing both the Orange and Scarlet Knights. He has an upcoming visit to Syracuse on July 23rd. That visit could go a long way towards his final decision.

Witter is one of the top running backs on Syracuse's board. They covet his speed and elusiveness. The Orange should be in this one until the end.

Profile:

Deion Hallmon
Position:
Cornerback
School (City, State):
Cypress Bay High (Weston, FL)
Rating:
Not Rated
The latest:
Hallmon claims one of the largest offer lists in the country. He recently released a top five of Florida State, Syracuse, Rutgers, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. He tweeted that Syracuse will receive the first official visit. However, he has also been quoted as saying Rutgers is his top school right now.

A strange and dramatic recruitment, visits figure to be the key for Hallmon. Rutgers, West Virginia, or the Orange could land the talented corner and it shouldn't come as a surprise. But Syracuse feels confident with where they stand.

Profile:

Aaron Roberts
Position:
Offensive Guard
School (City, State):
De La Salle Institute (Chicago, IL)
Rating:
Not Rated
The latest:
Roberts is down to Syracuse and Illinois with visits scheduled to each. He has stated that if Oklahoma offered before his decision it would change things, but that isn't likely to happen.

The big interior lineman is big for the Orange who are looking to add a few hogs up front to bolster their depth. Roberts is the top target, and Syracuse is in a good position. They will receive the last visit before he decides and will have a chance to make a big impact on Roberts.

Profile:

Brendan Brosnan
Position:
Offensive Tackle
School (City, State):
Maine South High (Park Ridge, IL)
Rating:
3-star
The latest:
Brosnan visited Syracuse a couple of months ago. He loved the trip and has put Syracuse towards the top of his list ever since. As he looks to make a decision before the end of summer, he is taking his final visits. Maryland, Virginia Tech, and N.C. State are left as he has already seen Vanderbilt, Illinois and Boston College.

The 3-star tackle has discussed the possibility of a second trip to check out the Orange, though it is not probable. N.C. State and Vanderbilt figure to be the biggest threats to Syracuse. But the staff will continue to make Brosnan a priority.

Profile:

Lamar Dawson
Position:
Cornerback
School (City, State):
St. Rita High (Chicago, IL)
Rating:
3-star
The latest:
Syracuse is in prime position to land 3-star corner Lamar Dawson. He is planning a visit to the hill sometime in July, though a date has not been set yet. According to Dawson, Syracuse is the only school he is currently looking at though an offer from Illinois could come at some point.

Dawson says a commitment when he does take the trip to Central New York is probable. In fact, he tweeted to A.J. Long that he will commit when he visits.

Profile:

Nile Sykes
Position:
Outside Linebacker
School (City, State):
Montini Catholic High (Lombard, IL)
Rating:
3-star
The latest:
Sykes is a high priority for Syracuse despite already having four linebackers committed for 2014. He has not visited the Orange campus yet, but is planning to before the end of summer. The 3-star linebacker is very high on Syracuse and loves the coaching staff.

Iowa State could be the biggest threat to the Orange here as he looks to take a second trip to the Ames (IA) campus. A decision is expected this fall, a few games into his senior season.

Profile:

Andre Godfrey
Position:
Safety
School (City, State):
Miramar High (Miramar, FL)
Rating:
3-star
The latest:
Syracuse has a connection to Miramar High as Keon Lyn and Sean Avant both attended the school. That could help the Orange with Godfrey going forward. The 3-star safety is planning to take officials to each school in his top five which includes Syracuse.

A decision isn't expected until he finishes those officials after his senior season. Keep an eye on Louisville and N.C. State here.

Profile:

Micquell Cotton
Position:
Safety
School (City, State):
O'Fallon High (O'Fallon, IL)
Rating:
3-star
The latest:
Cotton was set to make a decision in June, but decided to push back his announcement until he takes more visits including Syracuse. Indiana, Iowa State, and Michigan State are all in play as well for Cotton's services.

Iowa State figures to be the leader and a return trip is possible. But Syracuse will have a chance to make an impression when he visits the campus over the summer.

Profile:

Ervin Phillips
Position:
Running Back
School (City, State):
West Haven High (West Haven, CT)
Rating:
Not Rated
The latest:
Once thought to be a sure fire commit once he visited the campus, Phillips has pushed back his decision until after he takes official visits. He has been tweeting Syracuse commits to try to schedule his official there while other prospects are on campus.

Phillips has visited Temple and Villanova, but Syracuse should still be considered the leader. The only question is whether the Orange would take both Phillips and Witter if Ollison chooses Syracuse. If in-state UConn decides to offer that could make things interesting.
