Commitment Spotlight: Devin Pike

We look at new Louisville pledge Devin Pike who joined the Cardinals 2014 recruiting class with his pledge on Saturday afternoon.

Devin Pike

FOX Sports NEXT Ranking: Non-Ranked Tight End 3-Star
High School Positions: Tight End/Defensive End
Projected College Position: Tight End

Pike has a big athletic frame and stood out in two sports during his prep career. Early projections had Pike as a future college defensive end, however, his ability to be a physical blocker from the tight end spot and his soft hands make him a pro-style tight end capable of having a solid career.

No real concerns when you look at Pike as a college athlete on or off the field. The year off sports after transferring from Reading High School (public) to Cincinnati (Ohio) Elder (private) took a toll early as he shook off the rust. However, once Pike got back into football mode he was a solid performer at one of Ohio's top prep programs.

Louisville fans will be getting a very well tested prospect in Pike who plays at one of the top prep programs in the Midwest. Pike has also grown up watching older brother Tony Pike (University of Cincinnati QB) handle the pressures of being a college student athlete.

On the field Pike will give the Cardinals a couple of options as he also could move over to defense and play defensive end. Hard-nosed, Pike is not afraid to bang on the basketball court or on the football field while being athletic enough to flex out or line up next to a tackle and provide an extra blocker capable of reaching second level defenders.

Pike is also not afraid to go over the middle and make the hard catch and continues a string of solid tight ends from the Elder program that include Kyle Rudolph and Alex Welch.
