Winters Has Top 4; Talks USF

Tallahassee (FL) Rickards High School defensive end prospect Markel Winters recently attended USF's lineman camp and talks about the Bulls.

Tallahassee (FL) Rickards High School defensive end prospect Markel Winters recently camped at South Florida. While the Bulls haven't offered the 6-foot-3 and 235-pound end yet, Winters thinks his second in-state offer may come soon. The rising senior also has an early top four.

Winters already has scholarship offers from Florida Atlantic, Marshall, Middle Tennessee, Memphis, Northern Illinois, Old Dominion, Tennessee State, UCF, UMass and Western Kentucky.

The South Florida staff and Winters got a chance to know each other last week at the Bulls lineman camp.

"It was really fun," said Winters. "There was a lot of competition out there. I was really trying to get an offer, it seems like it is very close. I have got to keep working to impress them even more. The defensive line coach (Coach Eric Mathies) told me he really liked me and he is going to keep watching me."

The talented defensive end also has a current top four of Memphis, FAU, Northern Illinois and Middle Tennessee. Of course a USF would most likely change that according to Winters.

Last season as a junior Winters recorded 5 sacks while totaling 67 stops. He also had an interception and three caused fumbles. Winters has been described by his head coach as one of the hardest workers on the Rickards team and one of his best leaders.
