Quick Hitter: Flakes Talks USM Interest

As Southern Miss heads into the season, we'll continue to keep a close eye on recruiting. One prospect who the Eagles were pursuing was safety Andre Flakes out of Milton, Florida. The talented senior gives the update in this interview with GoldenEaglePride.com.

Andre Flakes is a 5'10, 185lb explosive athlete who can play any position on the field. Mostly recruited as a safety, he could also play on the offensive side as well as be a weapon on special teams.

Southern Miss was really in on Flakes as the summer was coming to a close. Where does he stand now?

"My summer went really good," Flakes told GoldenEaglePride.com this afternoon.

"I've been hitting the gym a few times a day and work outs at school have been going great. I'm just now getting ready for the season."

Flakes said he's still hearing from a large group of schools who are interested in him.

"I'm still hearing from WKU, Southern Miss, Marshall, Troy, UAB, Middle Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Ohio State, and South Florida," he said.

"There are more, but I just can't remember them right now."

Flakes has offers from Marshall, Southern Miss, Florida A & M, and Northern Illinois.

He said Southern Miss is right at the top, and he almost pulled the trigger for the Eagles in the summer.

"I like Southern Miss a lot," he said. "I was going to commit but it didn't happen. They are still in the running for me, though."

Flakes said he's hoping to make a commitment soon.

"It could be as early as this week," he said. "I'd like to commit before the season starts, so if things work out I'll commit by the end of the week."
