Burkett Gets Big Offer

Offensive tackle Jesse Burkett from Bartram Trail High School in St. Johns, FL talks about his offer from Stanford and his commitment to Vanderbilt.

St. Johns (FL) Bartram Trail High School offensive tackle Jesse Burkett has picked up a new scholarship offer. The offer was a big one for the talented lineman. This past May during the spring evaluation when Burkett held but two offers he mentioned that if he could pick a school to get an offer from it would be Stanford. That wish became reality recently when the Cardinal offered the 6-foot-4 and 290-pounder who committed to Vanderbilt in July.

"It is definitely interesting. I mean it was an honor to get it. It was honestly what I have been working for, for a while," said Burkett of the Cardinal offer. "I am committed, it's a decision I made so I am sticking with it I think."

Burkett and his family had visited both Stanford and Cal earlier this summer and left the west coast with only an offer from Cal. Shortly after returning from the California trip the lineman made his decision to commit to Vanderbilt which he had also visited earlier in the summer.

Among the reasons he decided on Vanderbilt was the coaching staff and the academic tradition.

"They are part of something that is on the rise. They are doing great things there and they are excited about it," said Burkett of the Commodore staff. "Their academics are great obviously. It's everything I've been looking for."

The athletic Burkett who only had two offers going into the second week of spring practice can now claim over twenty from coast-to-coast. In addition to Vandy, Stanford and Cal he also holds offers from Appalachian State, Connecticut, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Navy, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Purdue, South Florida, Tulane, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Western Kentucky and Western Michigan.
