Practice Report - August 21
The Bobcats took it slow and quick Tuesday night, the final evening of two-a-day practice. With just a week and a half to go until their battle with Southern Mississippi, coach Dennis Franchione has been pleased with the teams hunger for greatness all year long. "Our guys have been pretty attentive all along," Franchione said. "This has been a good camp and this group is hungry and willing to do whatever we've asked them to do. A little more edge comes on now but you have to be a little more careful, we don't want to play the game until next Saturday. We have to build towards it." Wednesday will be the first day of preparation for the teams season opener. Wednesday morning, the scouting report on the Golden Eagles will be combed through. Franchione to the media yesterday said it best, it's been all about Texas State up to this point. Wednesday's practice will be the first with executing strategy against an opponent built in. Despite getting ready on the field, the Bobcat coaching staff still has some decisions to make off of it. Who will be redshirted has been a curious conversation over the last 72 hours and a complicated one. Many freshman are making the decisions hard. "We won't have practice Monday so we'll have more time to evaluate these last three days and make some decisions," Franchione said. "All in all I have a pretty good idea of how it's going to fall together but I want to hear the staff and their thoughts. Each position coach is kind of the head coach at his position and he gets a lot of say so in what our final decision is." Franchione believes that running back Jamel James will likely be redshirted and that Rob Lowe and C.J. Best will not. Lowe has "played too well" and Best has "too many little dimensions he gives us", according to Franchione. The hometown true freshman, defensive tackle Will Trevillion, has stepped up to provide greater depth on the defensive line this camp and he is one thing Franchione is sure about now. "As a true freshman, he's done really well," Franchione said. "Not every freshman can come in and withstand the test of time and do the things he's been able to do. He'll get snaps the first game I'm sure of that right now."
