"I had a good season last year," Cooley said at the Mississippi Elite media day. "I had 985 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. It was all right, but I think I could've done better."
It's not surprising what the 6' 4", 228-pound receiver believes he does best on the field.
"I think my power and strength are my best attributes. I'm still working on my footwork, but I think my hands have gotten better during the offseason."
Cooley is looking to take his game up a notch this season.
"I want 1,500 yards and 15 touchdowns this year. I want to break all of our receiving records here at Laurel. But mainly, I want to help us get to Jackson (to the state championship game) this season. That's what were' all shooting for."
Which colleges are showing the most interest right now?
"I'm hearing from Ole Miss, MSU, and USM the most. All three of them have offered me."
What is Ole Miss saying?
"They're telling me I have a scholarship because they like my size. I like Ole Miss because they have a good campus and they're good. I enjoyed working out with them at their camp this summer. They really coach you up."
MSU likes the same things about the All-Area selection.
"They're saying the same things as Ole Miss. They like my hands. I like MSU too. They're good too. I like their campus. I visited there this summer and went to their camp. It's a good place."
Southern Miss is just down the road from Laurel.
"They said I might become a tight end in a couple years. We went to a couple of camps this summer, and we talked to their coach one-on-one. They really like me."
Any other schools close to offering?
"Florida State. I talk to coach (Tim) Brewster a good bit too. Vandy and Auburn have been talking to me a good bit too.
