Heard was a one-man wrecking ball in the Class 4A, Division I State Championship game last season, accounting for seven touchdowns in a 48-37 victory over Georgetown. But he'll have to find a new target out wide as Ellis Jefferson, the team's leading receiver in 2013, now plays for Arizona State.
Cedar Hill had an incredible season in 2012, but left with much to be desired after it lost to Katy 35-24 in the 5A, Division II title game.
If the Longhorns are going to end this season with a state championship they'll have to do so without several of the area's top offensive players in Ole Miss signee Quincy Adeboyejo, Texas A&M signee LaQuivionte Gonzalez and Oregon signee Damion Hobbs.
Many think they'll be able to because of Lodge despite the fact that he only had six catches for 59 yards and zero touchdowns as a sophomore.
If Lodge is the go-to guy on offense then Oklahoma cornerback commitment Marcus Green is Cedar Hill's main guy on defense. He and 2015 DB Darrell Miller will be tasked with keeping tabs on Heard's top targets.
We'll find out who comes out on top Thursday at 7 p.m. in Cedar Hill.
