Higley Wins a Wild One

The Knights top Phoenix Christian 52-39 in a shootout

The fireworks started from the get-go. Phoenix Christian RB Scottie Jordan took his first carry 80 yards for a score.

It took Higley just a few seconds to answer. Tyler Bloom bit Bayley Cook for a long TD.

Jordan took the first play another 70 yards for a score and Higley answered again with a KOR for a TD by Sinjin Kirkpatrick.

Score 12-12 with just 2 mins and 9 secs gone in the game. Neither team made a PAT or converted a 2 point try.

Higley finally played some defense, forced a punt, which was blocked by Kole Hunter and recovered inside the 20. Bloom hit Kirkpatrick from 8 yards out, 2 point try again failed. 18-12.

PC knotted the score again at the end of the first half when QB Roman Vitale rumbled in from 16 yards out. PAT no good. 18-18.

While 6 TDs were scored in the 1st quarter, field goals were the name of the game in the 2nd quarter. Higley kicker Erik Fritz connected from 32 and 28 yards out to build a 24-18 lead. That looked like it would be the score going into halftime but Scottie Jordan wouldn't have it. PC got the ball with 1:04 left and Jordan raced 81 yards to the 5 yard line. With a few seconds left on the clock Vitale hooked up with Jordan Leary, PAT was good and the Cougars took a 25-24 lead into the half.

The teams continued to trade scores the entire third quarter with Higley leading 46-39 in the 4th. If the game wan't crazy enough, it got crazier in the 4th.

Higley marched the field and looked like they would take a 2 score lead with 5 mins to play but on 3rd and 1, the ball was snapped over Bloom's head and recovered by PC.

PC marched the field as well and looked like they would tie the score but as Jordan leaped into the endzone, the ball popped free and Higley recovered for a touchback.

The game still completely wide open, Higley ball at the PC 31 yard line, 4th and 11, Bloom struck again, connecting with Hunter for a 31 yard score.

Final Higley 52 Phoenix Christian 39. Higley moves to 3-0 while PC drops to 1-2.

The DCs at these schools will not sleep tonight. A lot of points were scored but little defense was played. Game was also pretty sloppy with penalties.

Game Balls

I don't know the stats but Higley QB Tyler Bloom threw for a ton of yards. TE Nick Colson and WR Kole Hunter had huge games. Props to Phoenix Christian RB Scottie Jordan, he rushed for at least 300 yards, possibly 400.
