Jacksonville (FL) Raines defensive back Lamont Simmons has collected many offers, including receiving one from Purdue last month, his most recent. He has begun to narrow his recruitment down and is focused on a few schools.
"I would say I have a top three right now," said Simmons. "Georgia Tech, Tennessee, and Minnesota have definitely distanced themselves some. I'll take official visits to all of those schools after the season. I'll take all five of my official visits and another one will be to Arkansas. I'm not sure where I'll take my last one."
Simmons spoke about what he likes about each of the four teams he'll pay an official visit to.
Georgia Tech: "I've wanted to visit them for quite a while. It is a great engineering school. Coach (Lamar) Owens always shows me a lot of love. We talk almost every week. He's an awesome guy."
Tennessee: "I took an unofficial visit there in the summer. The facilities are great at Tennessee. I talk to Coach (Willie) Martinez and he's a great guy. The coaches have been awesome and relationships are key to me."
Minnesota: "The coaches there have been showing me a lot of interest. The facilities look nice from pictures and videos that I've seen and it seems like a good place to be. I'm looking forward to visiting them."
Arkansas: "Coach (Randy) Shannon is another coach that shows me a lot of love. I talk to them quite a bit too and it's a visit that I expect to be impressed with."
The three-star safety from Jacksonville will wait until after the season to take those official visits and make a decision soon thereafter.
Simmons will visit Georgia Tech unofficially this weekend to see them host North Carolina.
