Since before the season, since the beginning of the season and at almost every press conference this year there has been at least one question about the status of Michael Brewer.
"Day-to-day," Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury said on Tuesday about the progress of Brewer on trying to come back from the injury. "He's been throwing and coming along, so we'll see."
In the meantime, while Brewer has been recovering and rehabbing, Baker Mayfield and Davis Webb have led the Red Raiders to a 4-0 start.
Against Texas State, Kingsbury chose to pull Mayfield, who has started all four games this season, in the second quarter and replaced him with Webb.
With both quarterbacks having their own share of struggles, but Webb leading Tech to the 33-7 victory, Kingsbury said both would get their fair share of reps in practice moving forward.
"No, we've adjusted the reps a little bit, but we'll kind of give them each their shot and then go from there," he said. "Then hopefully we get Mike (Brewer) back pretty soon and we'll see how it shakes out."
But until Brewer gets back, Kingsbury is stuck with two options – Mayfield and Webb.
On the season, Mayfield has gone 99-for-150 for 1,120 yards and eight touchdowns, while Webb, in limited playing time, has gone 33-for-64 for 514 yards and four touchdowns.
Despite Mayfield being ahead of Webb in every category, the one he is tied with him is interceptions with four.
With the Texas State game being a sloppy affair where both Webb and Mayfield turned over the ball, Kingsbury said the bye week gives them a chance to fix some of the issues they have had through the first four games.
"Just get back to the basics," he said. "Last game just wild with the ball, and then didn't execute like we've got to execute so get back to basics and come out against Kansas and try to play a lot better."
