Leniu is a Cougar

Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco linebacker Chandler Leniu said he nearly committed to Washington State on his official visit this past weekend. After mulling things over for the past few days, the athlete decided he was ready to pull the trigger.

Chandler Leniu said he loved his visit to Washington State last weekend, so much so that he said he came close to committing several times. On Monday, he said he wasn't quite ready to end his recruitment but fast forward a few days and Leniu is now a Cougar.

"It was just the right fit for me," Leniu said Thursday night. "I really like the team a lot and the players and coaches are all great people. I know those guys will be great to play with and I just didn't see a reason to hold off making my decision any longer.

"The defense fits me very well and I think I can do big things. I think there's a good chance I'll be able to get in there and make an early impact and that's what I'm looking forward to doing. Pullman is a cool college town as well and I like the small town feel to it. Like I said, it was just a great all around fit in every way and I'm very excited to be a Cougar."

Leniu said he was planning to take the rest of his visits before making his decision, namely TCU and Iowa State but isn't sure if he'll still follow through with that.

"I might still go but I'm not sure yet," Leniu said. "I'm solid with Washington State and that's the only school I'm thinking of now. Now that I'm committed, I just want to focus on my season here at Bosco and helping our team win a state title. It feels great to have my decision out of the way though and it's one less thing I have to worry about it moving forward so I'm excited and relieved."
