Oliver On the Big Board

Scout.com has an update on Westfield defensive lineman Ed Oliver from Spring, Texas. The talented sophomore showed on last Saturday why he will be one of the most sought-after interior linemen in the country.

In a 41-7 win over a previously unbeaten team, Spring (Tex.) Westfield defensive lineman Ed Oliver and his defensive teammates were playing lights out. From the time the ball was snapped until the end of the play, it was likely that one of the guys in the trenches was in the quarterback's face or getting a back down for a tackle for loss.

"It was hard game. Overall, we played a good game and came away with the win," Oliver said. Right now we are undefeated, No. 1."

On the day, the 6-foot-2, 270-pound Oliver was quite active, recording (unofficially) five tackles and two quarterback hurries. He was able to penetrate the Atascocita line effectively for the entire contest.

But he said that he had a rocky start. It didn't seem that way.

"At first, it seemed there was a lot of holding going on down there and it was getting to me, but I brushed it off and just played football," Oliver said. "You have to be quick and use technique and then you can make plays."

And he made plenty of them. This is no secret to top college football programs across the country as a many of them flocked to North Houston to check him out this past off season.

Plenty of interest was shown, but a few made sure to let Oliver know that he could have a spot in their 2016 recruiting class.

"Yes I do have some offers: Houston, Texas Tech and Oklahoma," Oliver said. "Texas and TCU are also looking at me Texas and TCU."

He said that he has not yet made any visits, but said that he would love to get out to LSU. Oliver said that "speed" is the main thing that draws college coaches to him.

"It is my speed that they like, but I'm big too," Oliver said. "I'm big and fast and I come off the ball quickly."
