Friekh's love for Arizona nothing new

Layth Friekh has liked Arizona for a while. Read on to see why he decided to commit on Monday, his thoughts on his future as a Wildcat, and more.

On Monday, Peoria (Ariz.) Centennial offensive tackle Layth Friekh became one of the bigger recruits, literally and figuratively, to commit to Arizona.

"I had known for awhile that Arizona was the school that I wanted to go to and being at the game just sold me," Friekh said. "They've always shown me a lot of love and they've been recruiting me since Rich Rod got there."

Friekh had a good idea he would wind up at Arizona, but wanted to visit this past weekend to give the school one more closer look.

"I had given a little bit of thought to committing, but I wanted to go on my official visit and just take everything in before I pulled the trigger," he said.

The coaches' recruiting persistence was one of the aspects that sold Freikh on Arizona.

"The line coach has let me know they think a lot of me and my ability to play tackle," Friekh said. "I'm happy I committed now because I know what position and system I will be playing in."

The upgrades to the school's facilities also impressed Friekh.

"There's been a lot of talk about all the new buildings and stuff that were being constructed and I thought they would be pretty good, but seeing them up close was just incredible," Friekh said.

"It almost had a professional feel to it and it showed they're serious about football down there."

With his commitment out of the way, Friekh can concentrate on his senior season while continuing to work on his body.

"We're 7-1 right now and playing well," Friekh said. "I want to finish the season out well and I really want to rework my body, because I have to get even quicker and work on my footwork. Coach wants his linemen to be able to move and get to that next level."

In addition to what he saw on the field, Arizona's academics also impressed Friekh.

"I want to major in criminal justice and they have a pretty good program for that," he said. "So between the academics and athletics Arizona was the school for me."
