Jermany McLaurin made a name for himself his sophomore season when he had over 700 yards of offense for Pearl.

"I did a lot of speed training in the offseason," McLaurin said. "I ran a lot of miles at night and in the morning. I did a lot of things to get my endurance up, my speed, and my explosiveness as well."

What parts of his game has he improved on the most since last season?

"My speed and my hands on offense, and just getting to the ball carrier faster on defense."

The 200-pounder plays multiple positions on the field.

"I play cornerback, safety, outside linebacker, wide receiver, running back, and quarterback."

Jermany has been used more on defense this season.

"I have 28 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 batted down balls, and a forced fumble so far. I have been playing a lot of safety and outside linebacker this year."

Which position does he feel most natural?

"Running back. I feel I am very explosive at running back."

Which colleges has he had a chance to visit so far?

"Ole Miss, MSU, and USM."

Jermany attended the Rebels' Senior camp and went to a couple of games there this fall.

"It was pretty fun at Ole Miss. It feels like home. The atmosphere is pretty good, and I like the coaching staff a lot. The other players that have played there said it was pretty fun there. They are recruiting me for running back."

What stands out about the Rebels more than anything else?

"The people there at OM and the coaching staff. Blue is basically my favorite color so I like their uniforms. They just tell me to keep up the good work and be dedicated to football and listen to my parents."

McLaurin talks about his MSU visit.

"It was pretty fun there too. I went to their Big Dawg camp and they told us a lot of stuff like be into your parents like Ole Miss said as well. They worked us out like I am not use too at their camp. It was real tough. Different than the rest of the camps I went to."

What did MSU say during the camp?

"Be motivated, don't quit and never stop."

What stands out about the Dogs?

"A lot of things. That is where my dad went to school so I like it up there as well."

Who will be his first offer?

"Ole Miss. I have been taking a lot of trips there. I have been around their staff a lot."

Who else has caught Jermany's eye?

"USM and Alabama."

Pearl is 9-1 on the season and played 10-0 Jackson Callaway Friday night for the District championship.
