Jones Impresses In Playoff Opener

Hubbard rolled over Marlington 42-14 in the opening round of the Ohio high school playoffs last weekend. Four-star junior offensive lineman Matt Jones played exceptionally well for the victors.

Undefeated Hubbard continued their perfect season by defeating Marlington 42-14 last weekend in the first round of the Ohio playoffs.

Junior guard Matt Jones (6-foot-4, 295-pounds) played extremely well on both sides of the football, and the four-star prospect was pleased with the victory.

"This was another great win, and this year is our year, so we need to stay focused," Jones stressed. "I played on both sides of the ball all night long, and I'm going to do whatever the coaches want from me. I'm always going to give 100% on every play."

"I thought I played well tonight, but so did everyone on our team," he added. "I can always play better, and I need to keep working hard to improve as a player."

College recruiters have already noticed his play, and Jones holds offers from Toledo, Kentucky and West Virginia.

"I have the three offers, but a lot of new schools are now contacting me," he explained. "Alabama has started recruiting me, which is great. I'm talking to Michigan State and Ohio State a lot, and I think a lot of both schools. I will be going to West Virginia for the Texas game, and I was at Michigan State last week for their win over Michigan."

"Michigan State was awesome and they must have had over 100 recruits there," Jones continued. "I loved the atmosphere and think a lot of Coach (Mark) Dantonio. They play smash-mouth football, which is what I like. West Virginia has always been a favorite of mine, and this will be my second trip there this year. I know what I'm looking for, and I've seen a lot of good things at West Virginia."

"I will be going to Penn State next week, and I'm really looking forward to that trip," he stated. "They are really recruiting me harder. Maryland has invited me to every home game and I'm interested in them. I'd like to schedule a visit to see the campus. I'm wide open as far as schools go, and I'm hoping to add more offers."

Jones and his Hubbard teammates will play Aurora this Friday in second round playoff action in Division-III.
