Powell has a huge game

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Last Friday night, sophomore wide receiver Cornell Powell led Rose to a 46-43 win over crosstown rival Conley in the second round of the state playoffs. Following the game, he spoke with Scout.com.

Last week in second round of the state playoffs, Cornell Powell had a big game – a really big game.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Powell finished with 308 yards receiving and five touchdowns.

Despite his unbelievable performance, Powell was quick to give credit to his teammates.

"We just worked together and practiced hard all week," Powell said. "That was the key to our success."

It is early in the recruiting process for Powell and he will likely attend several camps next summer.

"I haven't started getting any mail yet, but it will come," he said. "I'd like to hear from any schools that are interested. "I'm going to try to hit all the local camps – ECU, North Carolina, N.C. State, Duke and Wake Forest."

Rose is 11-2 and plays on the road against Hoggard this Friday in the third round of the state playoffs at 7:30 p.m.

"We just need to continue to work as a team and never give up," he said. "We need to keep picking each other up and don't put each other down."

"Winning a state championship is the goal. We're going to have to give the same effort we gave tonight and much more."
