  • Recruiting: It came down to Alabama and LSU for Jones, but Alabama won again. The Tide has gone into Louisiana in 2014 to get top offensive tackle Cameron Robinson, Scout 100 wide receiver Cameron Sims, and three-star defensive tackle O.J. Smith this season. Alabama had Jones on campus for the LSU game earlier this fall and it will have him back for an official visit likely to happen in January. He has already visited LSU officially.

  • Scouting Report: It will surprise some when they see Jones in coverage. He is a thick athlete built more like a linebacker, but he plays cornerback a lot in high school, and he stays with top wide receivers. He is best when playing off the ball because of his ability to read and react. His skill-set is very good for a college safety.

He has great instincts and he tracks the ball extremely well. He does not have exceptional top-end speed and he may not be the most explosive prospect, but he reacts quickly, he has a nice initial burst, and he covers a lot of ground. His range is a real strength.

When you see Jones physically, you think big hitter and a force against the run. He is solid there, but he can play with a little more aggression on the football field. He is not a real striker and he could be more explosive through his tackles. He does track the ball carrier well though and taking good angles in a strength.

His ball skills are well above average. He is a natural receiver of the ball and he really can become a ball-hawking safety on the next level. He does a very good job of turning and locating the ball to make a play on it.

Overall, Jones is an athlete ready to play early on the next level because of his size and coaching. He is physically developed, he has great awareness in the secondary, he can fill the alley, he can play the ball, and he is big enough to support the run. He needs to become more physical on the next level, he will improve his closing speed, and he could be a big force at safety in the southeastern conference.
