There might be higher-rated players on the Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary team, but senior linebacker Newman Williams has made as many big plays over the past two seasons as anyone. Williams committed to Akron Monday.

Head coach Terry Bowden is in the process of turning around the Akron program, as evidenced by last Friday's big win over Toledo.

The Zip program received more good news Monday with the commitment of Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary senior linebacker Newman Williams.

"Newman has committed to Akron," Darren Williams, the players's father confirmed Monday.

Williams was the key figure in last year's state championship win for the Irish, and he is having another great playoff run this season.

Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary will play for the Ohio Division-III state title this Thursday against Trotwood-Madison.
