ORLANDO—Yet another very competitive day on the practice field for the offense on Team Nitro.
Here are the headliners from Tuesday’s practice voted on by the Scout Recruiting Team:
Braden Smith | OT | Olathe (Kan.) South Sr. | Undeclared
Notes: Primarily playing left guard Smith has been a stalwart all week long in practice. In 1-on-1’s Smith was nearly unbeatable when he locked into oncoming defenders, able to out muscle the competition and maintain his leverage.
Notes: One of the few playmakers on the outside for Team Nitro that could create some separation and make tough catches in traffic against a loaded defensive backfield. Lane shows nice body control and uses his big frame to box out cornerbacks and make plays down the field.
Rod Taylor | OG | Jackson (Miss.) Callaway Sr. | Ole Miss
Notes: Despite his massive frame Taylor is able to move his feet well enough to shut down speed rushers looking to run right by him. Attempting to bull rush Taylor, several defensive linemen came up on the wrong end of that one on day three. Great strength from Taylor.
Notes: A five-star prospect that has certainly lived up to the billing, especially on day three of practice. McDermott is a very good athlete with feet that never quit and a frame built to battle even the biggest defensive tackles on the other side. Balance is the name of the game for McDermott and he executes that trait to perfection.
Trevor Darling | OT | Miami (Fla.) Central | Miami (Fla.)
Notes: A fellow future Hurricane, Darling’s future might just be at right tackle and he was as impressive as anyone in practice, quick enough to kick out and lock on edge rushers, strong enough to stand his ground when defenders went right at him.
