USAAAB: Midwest Midweek Notebook

Check out the latest news and notes from the Midwest region from San Antonio at the Army All-American game.

Morgan ready to 'Shock'

Four-star Crete (Ill.) linebacker Nyles Morgan is on schedule to announce his decision Saturday during the Army Bowl.

He hasn't officially named finalists but Notre Dame, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt are expected to be in the mix. Morgan said Tuesday that he had made up his mind about a decision but hadn't told anyone. He also said he was going to shock some people with his decision.

Gault doing well

Many have mentioned Monona Grove (Wisc.) offensive lineman and Wisconsin commit Jaden Gault as quietly becoming one of the top performers on the offensive line. He is taking first team snaps at left tackle for the West team.

Ohio State commits

Several Ohio State commits have put in impressive performances this week, and some are making news like Glenville (Ohio) offensive lineman Marcelys Jones.

Jones told's Bill Greene that he is supposed to enroll early but isn't sure he will report early.

"I'm definitely committed to Ohio State and I'm looking forward to seeing Erick and Marshon make their choices this Saturday," Jones stressed. "I'm supposed to report to Ohio State next week, but I'm not sure if I am or not. I have to see what happens, and I'm not sure about going there next week just yet."

Other Notes

Plainfield South (Ill.) five-star linebacker Clifton Garrett is committed to LSU and on the West team. He has been held out of practice since after the first session as a precaution after landing on his shoulder wrong. He says he will be back to full contact Thursday.

Also of note, high school teammates Marshon Lattimore and Erik Smith will be committing Saturday during the game and have confirmed that they will be attending the same school.
