This BCS type back has had a whirlwind of a recruitment. After a coaching change at Louisville put him back on the market, the Cardinals loss and everyone elses, could very well be UTSA's gain.

During Daniel Gresham's (All Saints Episcopal HS) recruitment he's been committed to the Texas Longhorns and then Louisville Cardinals. At one point or another in the process he had offers from these listed programs: Alabama, Florida State, Texas, Louisville, Ole Miss, Miami, Tennessee, Auburn, Vanderbilt and Missouri. All incredible programs that are a part of the elite level of college football.

Some liked him as a running back, others as a straight fullback, it didn't matter. His offer list would widen any one's eyes.

Early on last spring, Gresham, committed and then de-committed from UT and just a few days ago he received a gut-wrenching call from new Louisville Head Coach Bobby Petrino that set the wheels in motion for UTSA.

"When I was committed to Texas, they were my only offer when I committed so I took it. I prayed about it, looked around and felt it wasn't the place for me. I've always been a Louisville fan being from Kentucky. I went up there and I liked it so I committed. Then I got a real straight forward phone call from Coach Petrino and his staff. I was at my football banquet, they called me and told me that they were not going to honor my commitment. I was shocked," said Gresham (in a low solemn voice).

As circumstances unfolded, the UTSA staff had their eye on the situation and it didn't take long to let the 3-Star and #1 rated fullback (per Scout.com) in the nation know that he was wanted and needed.

"They (UTSA) called me on Monday, MLK day, and offered me. Coach Marshall came to my school on Tuesday to see me. He let me know of the immediate chance to play a lot. It's kind out of the blue, I was extremely excited. One of my best friends, Brian Vaughn, he's kind of like a brother to me, goes there. We talked about it, he told me all about UTSA. He said I should take a visit," said Gresham.

And visit he will. Gresham flys out of DFW on his own Thursday morning and will enjoy a 2-day midweek visit to UTSA. He'll head back home on Saturday morning.

The 'Runners are recruiting Daniel for the fullback position, which in the UTSA offense is more like a hybrid H-back position, not a true fullback spot and Gresham is fine with that.

"They're recruiting me for the hybrid H-back position. My favorite position is tailback, but I'm going to have to block wherever I go. I want to be versatile, whatever I can do to help the team," said Gresham.

As for his options right now, Daniel says that UTSA is his only legit offer and only official visit set up. Kansas was showing interest and on the verge of offering when the Jayhawks confirmed they had no more spots left at his position. UCLA and Kansas State have also expressed interest. UCLA Head Coach Jim Mora visited Gresham the other day as did the KSU coaches. Both programs are trying to see if there is a spot for the touted back.

As National Signing Day draws closer and closer, the best of the best have been after Gresham and one could only imagine that potentially he wouldn't take a new, up and coming program like UTSA serious. If his visit wasn't proof enough, that couldn't be further from the truth.

"I talk to Brian (Vaughn) a lot. I like that they play in the Dome and Coach Coker's good history with running backs. I don't like to be a follower, weigh all my options and go to the best place for me. The 4 and 5 star guys always go to Alabama, Florida State, and schools like that. I want to be the player to start my own chapter. Regardless of the position, I am seriously considering UTSA. They're not touted like an Alabama or Florida State, but I'm going in thinking there is a possibility I could end up at UTSA," said Gresham.

If everything goes well on his visit, UTSA could land the commitment of the much needed fullback they've been searching for and the highest rated recruit in the programs short history. All of RunnerNation and UTSA fans everywhere know the saying, "In Coker We Trust."

We'll have another update with Gresham after his visit to see how it went.
