2015 Intro: Joe Zumpano

Gurnee (Ill.) Warren junior offensive lineman Joe Zumpano (6'5, 270) visited Iowa next weekend and is looking to hear from more schools as his process moves along.

The state of Illinois has been home to a many outstanding offensive line recruits over the last few years and in the 2015 class, one big man looking to get his name into that same breath is Joe Zumpano, a 6-foot-5, 270-pounder who visited Iowa for their junior day last weekend.

"I thought it went really well," he said. "I really enjoyed the school. The football facilities were phenomenal and I felt a good rapport with the coaches. I'm hoping to hear from them more."

While on his visit, Zumpano had an opportunity to speak with the staff, specifically offensive line coach Brian Ferentz and learn more about where he currently stands with them.

"Coach Ferentz said he watched my film and enjoyed it and he would be down to the school and we would be in touch."

Other schools showing interest include Winona State and he has also had contact with South Dakota State, Western Michigan, and Florida International.

A two-year varsity starter, Zumpano has been well prepared for the competition he sees at college camps this summer. He admits that he has come a long way from the start of his sophomore year.

"My first game was pretty terrifying, but I held my own. I played well for five games [as a sophomore] before tearing my labrum and getting shoulder surgery."

Now healthy and coming off a good junior season, he has several camps in mind.

"Definitely Iowa camp, I know that for sure. On June 14, they have one at Lake Forest college. I'm going to go out to Western Michigan camp again. I went this year too. Other than that, I need to do more research."
