All Irish: Grant Blankenship

In the 12th of its series, Notre Dame defensive end commit Grant Blankenship of The Colony (Texas) High is broken down with a recruitment recap and player analysis.

Grant Blankenship (Defensive end 6'6", 251)

Location:The Colony (Texas) High

Rank: No. 10 defensive tackle, Four-star

Quick Hit:

Grant Blankenship hauled in early offers from schools like Baylor, Ole Miss, Oregon State and Texas Tech during the spring of his junior year. Texas Tech made an impression by extending him an "on the spot" offer after seeing him in person during an unofficial visit to Lubbock, and Oregon and Oklahoma also started expressing interest after Blankenship's junior year.

However, Blankenship was always high on Notre Dame coming from a family of Irish fans. Blankenship camped with Notre Dame in late June, and he was on commit watch entering camp. Even with an offer from the nearby Sooners under his belt, it didn't take Blankenship long to know where he wanted to attend school. Blankenship chose the Irish over the Sooners on July 5.

Blankenship will bring size and speed to Notre Dame's roster, along with a relentless motor. He's another big body, big skill that Brian Kelly is so fond of filling his roster with.

Notable Quotable:

"He's going to get in throwing lanes a lot and he's going to bat a bunch of passes down. He does a lot of that for us, and I know Notre Dame will utilize his size. It's hard to coach the speed aspect of it. It's hard finding a defensive line as big as he is who runs like he does. That's why everybody showed so much interest in him." – Scotty Johnson, The Colony assistant coach

"My family loves Notre Dame, so we kind of have an Irish background. We are going to Illinois over the summer, so I am actually going to make it to the summer camp in June and hopefully meet the coaches. Hopefully when they see me, see how big I am in person and see how I move on the field, that they offer me on the spot." – Blankenship
