Weatherford seeing recruitment pick up

Hamilton Heights (Ind.) wide receiver getting more interest after big performance at Core 6 Showcase. He talks new schools of interest and where he has already visited.

Coming off winning the offensive MVP award at a recent Core 6 Showcase, Hamilton Heights (Ind.) wide receiver Grant Weatherford has seen his recruitment pick up a little bit more steam.

"After the Core 6 event, Indiana contacted me," Weatherford said. "Wisconsin has jumped in, mostly through coach. Ball State has been in personal contact. I've also heard from Cincinnati, Purdue and Nebraska.

"Hopefully, things keep picking up."

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound receiver already has visited a few schools – including to the in-state Boilermakers.

"I've taken two to Purdue, one to Ball State and two to Cincinnati," he said.

While he doesn't have any camp plans set at this time, Weatherford is focused on getting bigger, improving his technique and refining his game.

He also said he feels he can bring good route-running abilities and speed to a college program.

Those skills were on display Saturday in Fort Wayne as Weatherford was one of the top receivers in a 7 on 7 at Athletes With Purpose (AWP).

He also squared off with Fort Wayne (Ind.) Carroll defensive back Justin Tranquill yet again after Tranquill also earned MVP honors at the same Core 6 Showcase.

"We have some close friends actually with him in Fort Wayne and me playing AAU basketball," he said. "With him, he's a really cool kid. On the field, we compete. Off the field, we shake hands and there's a lot of that."
