West Recruiting Notebook

A look at the latest news and notes from out West in this week's notebook...

Camp Season Gets Started

Camp and 7on7 season kicks in to effect fully in March with two major regional events taking place during the month.

First up is the Los Angeles Nike Football Training Camp on March 9th at Redondo HS, the top camp in the Southland and one of the best collection of talent you'll find in any region.

The L.A. NFTC has been one of the biggest launching pads to Nike's The Opening in July.

The following weekend, the first major 7on7 tournament in the region takes place in Las Vegas in the Pylon Elite 7on7 and Lineman Challenge at All-American Park.

A number of the top skill position prospects in the West will be in Vegas that weekend, including five-star quarterbacks Ricky Town and Josh Rosen.

The Lineman Challenge, ran by the AIGA Foundation, will also boast some of the top big men in the West.

Things kickoff next weekend with the 4th Quarter Sports 7on7 Tournament in Los Angeles on Sunday the 2nd as well as the NEI Showcase in Bellevue (Wash.), also on the 2nd, covering prospects in the Southland and the Northwest respectively.

Other major events in March include the Passing Down NorCal Regional in Livermore (March 9th) and Passing Down SoCal Regional in Fontana (March 30th).

  • When James Franklin was at Vanderbilt, he offered a slew of players from the West, and even landed a few.  But now that he's at Penn State, he's not changed his philosophy of recruiting nationally, and in a big change from years past, the Nittany Lions are hitting the West Coast pretty strong.  They signed Koa Farmer from Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame earlier this month and have thrown out a plethora of offers in this class, including to Newhall (Calif.) Hart teammates Brady White (QB) and Trent Irwin (WR) among others.
